Welcome to my new website! While the old site was doing its job and looking pretty good, I decided I could use an upgrade. So, here I am. I am still keeping the old site, mainly to maintain access to the cherished blog posts that reside there.
Much has changed in the past year. After graduating from North Bennet, I moved down to Carrboro, North Carolina to start business. There are advantages to living in the South that you can really appreciate after living in New England. To state the obvious, there's the weather. While I really love snow and the coziness that winter brings (when you're not out in it), I'm just not cut out to live in the cold. I get chilled when someones walks by with a popsicle on a nice spring day, so as you can imagine single digit temperatures just aren't for me. And while I've enjoyed the culture of northern cities, I'm enjoying getting to know the good times that Durham/Chapel Hill have to offer.
The other advantage is the cost of living. It would have been nearly impossible to start working for myself in Boston with the rents of home and shop already very steep. And though there is more demand up there for what I do, there are also more people just like me to do it.
The shop I am working out of has 11 people total and several shared machines. Most people are woodworkers of some sort, with a handful of artists of other mediums. While nothing can replace the camaraderie and whole hearted sass that the North Bennet bench room delivers, this new space comes pretty close. The excellent Mexican restaurant next door is a nice perk too.
Check back as I write about new pieces I'm making, new old equipment that we're fixing up, and all the things in between.
